A partner who can’t say what they really want takes a real toll on the other person, according to two studies: a 14-day diary study of 80 couples found that on days one partner suppressed their true feelings while sacrificing for the other, the other partner reported less satisfaction and more conflict than on ordinary days with no sacrifice at all, and a separate lab study found simply talking to someone who was masking her real feelings measurably raised the other person’s blood pressure
